Alibaba’s Token Foundry move shows AI commercialization needs one operating layer
SCMP Tech reported on 8 June 2026 that Alibaba established a new unit called Token Foundry, consolidating Tongyi Lab and Future Life Lab as the company pushes to commercialise artificial intelligence. The unit is reported to be led directly by CEO Eddie Wu Yongming, signalling that AI is being treated as a company-wide operating priority rather than an isolated lab.
For Bubbll, the useful lesson is organisational as much as technical. AI features in chat, CRM, commerce and hospitality tools become stronger when model capability, product decisions and customer workflows are connected through one operating layer with shared metrics.
That means designing for repeatable jobs: reply drafting, lead triage, guest-service recovery, order support and staff copilots. A model alone is not a product; the product is the workflow that safely turns AI output into business action.
